Job Responsibilities

As a Security Monitor, your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Continuously monitoring hospital surveillance cameras (live and recorded footage) to detect suspicious activity, theft, or safety threats
  • Generating and compiling Avigilon camera reports and evidence as needed
  • Tracking the movement of vehicles, patients, staff, and visitors throughout the facility
  • Reporting incidents or unusual behavior to the Security Team Leader or relevant authorities
  • Monitoring and responding to duress alarms, door alarms, and fire alarm activations
  • Operating and maintaining surveillance equipment, including cameras, monitors, storage units, and keyboards; reporting malfunctions promptly
  • Answering and routing security calls; serving as dispatch during hospital code events and emergencies
  • Assisting the Emergency Management Coordinator in notifying relevant authorities and YKHC leadership during incidents
  • Maintaining accurate security logs and performance data records
  • Upholding hospital policies and procedures, especially regarding patient confidentiality

Required Qualifications

This is a fresh graduate job with minimal requirements—here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • No prior work experience required (prior security monitor experience is a plus, not a requirement)
  • Strong customer service orientation and a positive, professional attitude
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Basic computer skills, including use of email and report writing software
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and verbally
  • Familiarity with standard office machines (multi-line telephones, copiers, computers)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in security monitoring or surveillance systems (not required but advantageous)
  • Bilingual proficiency in Yupik and English
  • Alaska Native or American Indian background (preference given per P.L. 93-638)
  • Familiarity with YKHC Cisco Phone Systems or similar enterprise communication tools
